Zachary Burgart
‘I find fascination in examining current American culture, traditions, expectations, double standards, and dueling personalities. This has led me to making art that has comedic elements, sometimes brightly lit, but usually a somber or even frightening tone. Finding the similarities and the violence the two personalities exhibit is what my practice has become, putting a face to this violence, this dueling society. I am a multi disciplined artist working in sculpture, ceramics, painting and digital work. By combining two or more of these disciplines I am more easily able to drive two personalities together. I try to place the viewer in a seat of unease, transporting that view of violence from society into the viewer.’
Zachary resides in Chicago, Illinois while he attends the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
